Craig Lowndes is undeniably one of Australias most popular motorsport icons, yet one of the most famous cars he has driven over the course of his career didnt deliver him a Championship or Bathurst 1000 victory – it simply looked absolutely awesome.

The Gibson Motorsport-built Ford AU Falcon quickly became affectionately known as the Green Eyed Monster by fans across the country when it appeared in its striking black and silver livery with those iconic green headlights in 2001.

Making its racing debut in the famous livery at the V8 Supercar Bathurst 1000 in the hands of Lowndes and Neil Crompton, the Green Eyed Monster was in a battle for the lead with Mark Skaife and Greg Murphy when it hit the wall in slippery conditions. While the result went begging, the livery was a winner and has been loved by motorsport fans ever since.
